Editor's Review:
Those shopping the market for airline miles credit cards should seriously consider the Miles Card from Discover. This airline credit card is a great match for someone with excellent credit who is interested in taking advantage of the travel rewards provided by airline cards.
Like all airline credit cards, Miles Card cardholders can earn free airline miles based on their purchases. Specifically, cardholders earn one mile for every dollar they spend on general purchases using the Miles Card from Discover. These miles can then be used to reduce the price of airfare with most airlines based in the United States without blackout dates. This is different from many airline miles credit cards, which often only partner with one specific airline.
Cardholders earn unlimited rewards on all purchases. Miles earned do not expire unless the account is closed or remains inactive for a 36 month period. In addition, cardholders can earn up to 12,000 bonus miles in their first year with 1,000 Bonus Miles accruing each calendar month you make a purchase for 12 months starting from the date your account is opened. And, cardholders can also earn 2 Miles for every dollar spent on their first $3,000 in annual travel and restaurant purchases. Other benefits of the Miles Card include travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, fraud protection, and a variety of Internet services.
The Miles Card from Discover offers an introductory rate of 0% for the first six months on all balance transfers and purchases. In addition, there is no annual fee for this airline credit card, despite the outstanding miles program. After the 12 month introductory period expires, the APR for purchases can be as low as 10.99% variable and on cash advances as low as 20.99% fixed, depending upon credit history.
On the plus side as well, the Miles Card uses the “Average Daily Balance” method for determining finance charges, not the "Two Cycle Average Daily Balance". For those who intend to carry a balance on their cards, particularly those who intend to carry an occasional large card balance, the "Average Daily Balance" method of computing interest charges is a less expensive method for computing finance charges and a much better option, in our opinion.
Card holders who fail to make their payments on time will receive a $15 fee on balances up to $500. A $39 fee is assessed on balances more than $500. There is a 3% cash advance fee with a minimum $5 charge and a 3% balance transfer fee with a minimum $10 charge and a maximum $75 charge. Cardholders who go over the pre-determined limit established on this airline credit card will pay a $15 on balances up to $500 and a $39 fee on balances over $500.
