Avoiding Those Last Minute Holiday Shopping Mistakes

by on December 23, 2011

If you’re headed out for a little last minute shopping, the chances of you gobbling up whatever retailers are offering are quite good. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can get what you need on your list without hitting those spending traps that are in almost every store right now.

First, make sure you set your budget before you ever leave the house. If you don’t have a budget in mind, you may grab the first thing you see, and that could really add up if your list is very long. There are still lots of deals out there, but make sure you do your research to get the best ones available.

Second, don’t forget to pay attention to the tiny print at the end of those sale ads. Retailers aren’t always up front about what those great deals entail, and a little serious reading on your part could save you a lot of money at the register.

Finally, don’t spend extra just to gain a few loyalty points or bonuses on your credit card. Take advantage of those programs if they fit with your shopping habits, but you’re spending real money to earn those bonuses, so spend carefully.
