Bank of America Introduces Red Sox Card Offer

by on March 27, 2007

Those of you out that are Red Sox fans will be happy to hear about the deal that Bank of America just made with the team.  The credit card juggernaut was already offering a Red Sox rewards card offer with incentives for Red Sox fans.  But, they just signed an eight year extension that guarantees the card offer will be around for many more years to come.  Similarly, new perks have been added to the card as well.

As a part of the new deal, Bank of America receives more marketing rights than they had previously enjoyed.  This includes offering greater rewards to card holders.

With the current program, Bank of America allows its customers to earn points that can be later redeemed for a number of rewards related to the Red Sox.  These rewards include taking special tours of Fenway Park or getting a special birthday message placed on the scoreboard in the park.

Under the new contract, Bank of America intends to add on even more perks.  One reward to be added to the card will be the opportunity to eat dinner with a former Sox player.  Another reward possibility will be to make a special visit to a dugout.  According to bank spokesman, Joseph Goode, the goal of the rewards program is to offer rewards that are just as magnificent as the level of passions of the Red Sox fans.

Since Bank of America will have more control over the card, its policies, and its marketing strategies, it will also be able to utilize other products along with the card.  As such, the bank will allow cardholders to earn points when they use their debit cards and checking accounts as well.

If you aren’t a Red Sox fan, you can take comfort in knowing that Bank of America seems to be working toward adding other baseball teams to their credit card line up.  In fact, they have already signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants that is similar to the one they signed with the Red Sox.  This contract will remain in effect until 2010.  So, if you wait long enough, you just might find that your favorite team has a card to offer as well.
