Canadian Serious About Paying Bill

by on February 7, 2007

Some people are really serious about getting their credit card bills paid on time and avoiding those late fees.

A recent story out of Buffalo, New York claims that a Canadian man was arrested after he tried to illegally cross the Niagara River in order to pay his credit card in person. Apparently, his credit card bill was due in short order and the man wanted to avoid paying… an $85 fee for sending his bill from Canada to his credit card issuer in the United States.

This rubber raft couldn't save him fro $85 in late feesAnd, since he didn’t want his payment to be late in addition to paying the extra fee for paying outside of the country, he thought he would just hop on a rubber raft and cross the river to the United States.

Why didn’t the man just cross the bridge like most people? Well, it seems he had a legal dispute with the Canadian government. Therefore, he wouldn’t be able to use the bridge. So, instead, he braved the freezing cold waters and set sail.

Of course, the man was arrested. But, before he could face his charges, he had to be taken to the hospital in order to be treated for hypothermia. Now, that’s dedication to getting your credit card bill paid off. Perhaps if more people were that dedicated, we wouldn’t have so many people filing for bankruptcy! Of course, it certainly would have been worth paying the $85 fee as opposed to the legal and medical fees he will now be paying.
