Chase Offers New Card to Canadian Citizens

by on March 20, 2007

For my Canadian friends to the north, I thought I would make mention of the new card being introduced by Chase Card Services.  On March 20, the company announced that it will be launching the new Chase Gold Canadian MasterCard for the Canadian credit card market,  This will be for the first proprietary card the company offers to Canadians and will offer a low introductory zero interest rate on balance transfers.  In addition, there is no annual fee associated with the card.

This new credit card is the third card to be offered by Chase to Canadians.  In 2005, it introduced the Sears Canada credit card and then later offered the Marriott Rewards Platinum Visa.  This new card, however, represents the company’s move to develop an even stronger relationship with the Canadian market.  To further demonstrate its commitment, Chase has also announced plans to hire 100 employees in the Ottawa area in order to support its new Canadian credit card business.

Accordint to Sherri Silver, the Senior Vice President of Chase Card Services in Canada, “The Chase Gold MasterCard is another extension of Chase’s mission to offer Canadian consumers high-quality products and services.  We look forward to introducing many other credit card related products and services in the near future.”

The new Chase Gold MasterCard will offer many of the same benefits typically found with its cards in the United States.  For example, customers will enjoy zero liability for unauthorized purchases and emergency card replacement.  In addition, the card will be supported by a customer service team that is available 24 hours per day.  It also offers a reasonable interest rate after the introductory period is completed. Of course, responsible handling of the card and paying it off at the end of each billing cycle makes the interest rate of little importance.

I am glad to see that Chase is expanding its services within the Canadian market.  It is about time our friends to the North get the opportunity to enjoy a credit card that is specifically designed for their country.  Some readers of this blog may remember the story of the man that illegally crossed the Canadian/United States border in an effort to pay his credit card bill on time – all to avoid paying high fees for mailing his payment from Canada.  With the new credit card being offered by Chase, perhaps such drastic measures to avoid high payments will be avoided!
