PCI Compliance Conference for the Hospitality Industry

by on March 18, 2008

The University of Delaware will be hosting a Payment Card Industry Compliance in Hospitality Conference on May first and second at the Courtyard Newark-University Delaware hotel.  This conference, which is being presented by the University of Delaware’s Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management (HRIM) along with the Unified Compliance Framework, is the first of its kind and will examine PCI compliance within the hospitality industry.

“Almost half of hospitality businesses are not fully PCI compliant, due to lack of clear direction.”  Said Cihan Cobanoglu, who is an associate professor at the University of Delaware and conference director.  “The conference will clear up the confusion and give hospitality information technology managers clear direction and focus.”

The conference is meant to help hospitality information technology professionals learn the latest in regulatory guidance as well as best practices for initiating payment card compliance.  As such, there will be presenters from MasterCard, Visa, and from the PCI Security Council.  In fact, Bob Russ, general manager for the PCI Security Standards Council, will be the keynote speaker at the event.  Other speakers will include key representatives from restaurants and hotel industries.  Vendors will also be represented at the conference.

The closing keynote address will be delivered by Dorian Cougias, who is the chief technology officer and co-creator of Unified Compliance Framework.  Cougias intends to discuss the process required to maintain PCI compliance.

“The Unified Compliance Framework is a proud sponsor of the University of Delaware’s efforts to help the hospitality industry comply with the incredible number of compliance requirements while distilling the practical requirements into focused, actionable compliance controls,” said Cougias.

Specific topics to be discussed at the PCI compliance conference will include:
· Maintaining PCI compliancy
· Avoiding data breeches
· Understanding PCI-Data Security Standards
· Examining new self-audit questionnaires
· Major trends in compliance within the industry

The two-day event will consist of a one day seminar followed by a one day break out session during which participants can join in in-depth workshops.
