You have heard of the Emmy’s, the Grammy’s, and even the MTV Music Awards. But, did you know that the credit card industry has it’s very own Grammy’s-like awards ceremony?
It’s true, The Credit Card Awards recently celebrated its second year of rewards designed to acknowledge outstanding achievement in various areas within the credit card industry.
Approximately 700 people gathered together to celebrate the black-tie awards ceremony, which took place at the London Hilton on February 7.
So how do you think your own credit card or card issuer measured up? Here’s a rundown of the winners and the categories in which they were recognized:
• Best New Credit Card Product: Barclaycard
• Best Credit Card Design: Barclaycard
• Best Industry Innovation: Barclaycard
• Best Charity Credit Card Program: MBNA And The National Trust
• Best Achievement in Customer Service: Nationwide
• Most Responsible Customer Acquisition Strategy: Halifax Bank of Scotland
• Best Affinity / Co-Branded / Retail Card Program: Bank of Ireland And Post Office

• Industry Personality of The Year: Richard Duvall
The American Express Red, which took home the best marketing campaign of the year, is actually a charitable credit card and was the first product to be launched under Bono’s “Red” campaign. The campaign focuses on raising funds in order to fight the AIDS epidemic in Africa.
Similarly, the National Australia Group Europe won the best corporate social responsibility program of the year for its efforts to help people in financial stress by providing advice, educational opportunities, and solutions for their financial troubles.
There’s even an awards category that is specifically geared strictly toward charitable credit cards. So, companies with a heart were most certainly recognized in this years awards.
It’s nice to see something so positive within an industry that is so very often maligned.
