Tips, News and Advice from Credit Card Assist

Credit Card Literacy Program Launched

by on January 27, 2007

All too often in the world of credit cards, we hear story after story about people that were taken advantage of by thieves that steal their credit cards or even their identities. Or, we hear of the unscrupulous behavior of credit card companies that seem to go out of their way to mislead consumers. For these reasons, it is nice to hear about positive actions taking place when it comes to credit cards…

Recently, the state treasurer of Iowa announced that 375 educators in the state would be participating in the Credit Card Literacy Program, which is sponsored through a partnership between the Treasurer’s office and the Center for Student Credit Card Education.

The purpose of the Credit Card Literacy Program is to help make high school students better prepared for their financial future. This sort of targeted education is becoming more and more important, as the credit card industry is routinely targeting high school students with credit card offers. With programs such as the Credit Card Literacy Program, these students can be better prepared to handle their credit cards in a responsible fashion – or completely resist the temptation to apply for them in the first place.

Those teachers that have enrolled in the program will receive a trainer’s guide along with a PowerPoint presentation. They will also receive a handbook to give to each of their students. And, the information is also updated each year in order to guarantee it contains the most current and accurate information available.

Similar programs are available in other states as well. If you have a high school student, you might want to ask your school about the Credit Card Literacy Program. If they have never heard about it, ask them to contact your State Treasurer’s Office or the Center for Student Credit Card Education to learn how they can become involved. The Center for Student Credit Card Education can be reached by email at ccarolan (at) CSCCE (dot) com or by phone at.
