We hear a lot of talk about how the use of credit cards is a bad thing. And certainly there is that element of abusing them
and finding yourself in serious financial trouble. However, there are a few ways that you could use your credit card for good. While these may not seem like important things, they can add up. We live in a society where certain people care about performing acts of kindness, so we can put this into that category. Here are five good things you can do with your credit card and contribute to positive change in the world.
Make charitable donations. There are plenty of great causes out there to which you can donate your money – everything from the environment, to animal organizations, world hunger relief, the care of children, and so on. These organizations need money to continue their ongoing operations. Most are reputable but some are not. Be sure to ask for copies of or to be able to view documents which show independent reviews of how money is used that is donated. That will help you make sure that your donation is doing the most good.
Purchase food for a food bank. In these uncertain economic times there are many families who are struggling – especially those who have lost jobs recently. When you make your next trip to the grocery store make sure you purchase canned goods that you can donate to your local food bank. There is little doubt that they will need the extra food that can be donated.
Pay a bill for someone in need. There are families who are struggling to pay their utility bills and other essentials for living. If there is any way for you to find out where a need is and then help by paying just one bill, that mean a lot to one of these families. Preferably, be sure that this is a completely anonymous transaction. There is no reason for the person to know from where the money came. Besides that makes it all the more fun and exciting to do. Take this on as a family project and you will be amazed at what it can do for your outlook on life.
Fill up a tank of gas for a senior citizen. When you are out getting gasoline and you see someone who is older and might be struggling offer to help them out by purchasing some gasoline for them. Make sure that you do not make them feel belittled because of what you are doing. Just do it and let it go. Another better way of doing this might be to purchase several gasoline cards and put an amount of $10 or $20 on each one. Then they could be handed out by yourself or someone else as a third-party so that no one knows from where the money originated.
We often talk about how to use credit cards wisely. While you are adding to your existing balance by doing the above, keep in mind the good and positive effects that this will have in someone’s life. It is definitely worth the effort.
