Former Polk County Sheriff Arrested for Theft & Fraud

by on May 17, 2012

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C.- Chris Abril is in trouble with the law again. The former Polk County Sheriff was arrested and charged on Saturday for the theft and unlawful use of a credit card. Abril was in possession of and used the credit card of Melanie Taylor, which was stolen from her home when she was not present. The credit card was used to buy fuel and other goods.

This is not Abril’s first run in with the law. In August 2006, he was charged with five counts of first-degree statutory rape and one count of first-degree sexual offense. These charges stemmed from incidents in 1988 and 1989 that involved girls who were only 10 and 12 at that time. In October 2009, he was charged with DWI and his license was revoked.

Abril was in the Polk County jail where he posted bond and was released. His next court date is not until June.
