Alert to TJ Maxx and Marshalls Card Holders

by on January 17, 2007

If you carry a credit card for T.J. Maxx or Marshalls, you need to pay extra close attention to your credit card statement this month. Apparently, there computer system was hacked into at the end of 2006, and some of their customer data was stolen. Even more frightening is the fact that the company has publicly admitted that it still doesn’t know how much information was taken

Obviously, law enforcement has been called in to look into the case. But, in the meantime, you need to keep an eye on your accounts if you have a credit card with either of these two stores. And, cardholders in the United States aren’t the only ones affected. Officials believe that cardholders in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Puerto Rico may all be at risk as well.

The company kept the security breach hush-hush until just recently, supposedly because law enforcement wanted it that way. The company has also stated that they’ve hired IBM Corp. and General Dynamics Corp. to upgrade the system – a little too late, don’t you think? In an age where identity theft and credit fraud continues to be rampant and thieves are getting more and more creative in how they game the system, you would think that security would have already been at the top of the list.

If you are concerned about the status of your account, call the special hotline that has been set up.
