US Bank Goes Swipe Less

by on November 20, 2006

If you are a Denver resident and a U.S. Bank customer, you will soon be experiencing the convenience of going “swipe less.” With this contact-less technology, you will be able to simply put your U.S. Bank Visa credit card near a special wireless card reader when you checkout at the store. In order to properly use this new technology, you will have to hold your credit card no more than two inches from the card reader.

If you are one of the customers living within the pilot area of this new credit card, you will be getting your new card in the mail by the end of this month. You should be able to start using the card immediately after, even at stores that are not prepared for the swipe less card technology. You shouldn’t have to worry too much about being unable to find a merchant with the swipe less technology, however, as Denver currently has over 600 stores with the necessary technology. This is because the card can still work as a traditional card if necessary.

The new swipe less credit card by U.S. Bank is expected to be a hit with both customers and with merchants. Merchants should enjoy these cards because they will speed up the transaction process and their employees can focus more on customer service than on dealing with credit cards. As a matter of fact, Visa estimates that swipe less cards should make transactions as much as 25% faster – a fact that is quite convenient for customers as well.

U.S. Bank selected Denver for the pilot program because they already have a strong presence in the area. The bank intends to evaluate how successful the program is in Denver in order to determine how and if it will expand the program nationwide.
