Using Fewer Cards Simplifies Your Life
Thursday, August 28th, 2008There are very few people in America today who feel as though they are truly living a simple life. That’s unfortunate since there are a lot of people who would like to be living more simply. It’s just hard to do this because we are constantly surrounded by the discontent and stress of consumerism and complexity. The good news is that you don’t have to make a huge change to your life in order to start simplifying. You can do small things that make it possible for you to simplify. One of those things is to reduce the number of credit cards that you own.
Here are some of the ways that having fewer credit cards will simplify your life:
• Bills will be streamlined. A major cause of credit card stress comes from the fact that people feel like it is difficult to organize their bills, understand where their money is going and make sure that they make all payments on time. The fewer credit cards that you have, the easier it is going to be to be organized with them. Plus, you’ll be spending less time on sending out the payments to those credit card companies and dealing with the bills so things will be simpler.
•You won’t be shuffling around in your purse for the right card. We’ve all had that moment of trying to sift through far too many credit cards to find the one with the right rewards program or with enough money left on the credit limit. It’s not simple at all.• Less risk of identity theft. Life certainly isn’t simple at all when your identity has been stolen and your money is all over the place. Dealing with the hassles of identity theft can put even the most laidback person into a high-stress time of life. The fewer credit cards you have, the less likely it is that you are going to become a victim of identity theft.
• You won’t buy as much stuff. The fact is that excessive consumerism makes your life more complicated. People who want to simplify need to start owning less stuff. With fewer credit cards, you can access a lower amount of money and therefore you will be more selective about the purchases that you make which will mean that your life will be simpler as time goes on.
• Rewards will add up more quickly. Using fewer credit cards means that you can focus spending on to one or two rewards credit cards which will mean that you accumulate your rewards more quickly. If you make smart choices about the things that you purchase with your rewards then you will be able to get your hands on items that will simplify things for you (such as organizers for the home or office).
These are just a few examples of the ways that your life gets simpler when you have fewer credit cards. But even without the examples, just thinking about the math makes sense. Most people feel credit card stress. Reducing the number of credit cards that you have reduces your stress. It’s that simple!
