People these days are frustrated with the fact that it is harder and harder to find a good rewards credit card. Even people who have great rewards credit cards may find that their rewards are being scaled back as the credit card companies try to adjust to the changes that have taken place in the economy. This is certainly a sad thing to see from the perspective of the credit card consumer. However, there are some things that remain rewarding about credit cards even if you are not getting those traditional credit card rewards (like travel miles) that you would like to get.
One of the greatest rewards of using a credit card is in its convenience and the fact that the use of a credit card can make life convenient (when used properly) in so many ways. Here are just a few of the ways that every day life is more convenient when you use one credit card than when you use debit cards or cash:
• Online purchases are best done with a credit card. You can not use cash to make a purchase online. You could use a debit card in many cases but it is considered risky in terms of identity theft as compared to the use of the credit card because using a debit card means opening up your checking account to the online world. There are alternatives such as the use of PayPal accounts but these charge fees and are not as convenient as just using your credit card.
• Credit cards are usually faster. Have you seen those commercials that show a bunch of people paying for something with credit cards and then one person pays with cash and the whole line slows down? It may look like a joke but the changes that have taken place in terms of processing credit card transactions now make it so that it may be quicker if you pay with credit than if you pay with cash.
• Organization of your finances is easy using credit card statements. It is difficult to keep track of a million different receipts in order to know where you are spending your money. Let’s not even talk about how hard it is to do taxes when you are relying on year-old receipts to figure out your deductions. When you use a credit card for every purchase, you have a simple method of organizing all of your financial transactions in to one easy-to-understand set of statements.
It’s true that we are losing out on some of the rewards that we used to get with our credit cards (although it’s also true that there remain some great rewards credit cards out there). However, there are still some great benefits to using a credit card in today’s society. The fact that the credit card adds convenience to your life is something that is not to be taken lightly.
