The Discover Mix Tape Student Card is a good option for college students who want to express their own identity while also building a credit history and participating in a rewards program.
Just as with other reward credit cards, the Discover Mix Tape Student Card rewards for every purchase made with the card. For the first $3,000 spent each year, cardholders receive a .25 percent Cashback bonus on every dollar spent. Thereafter, cardholders receive 1 percent Cashback on all purchases with no cap on the amount of rewards that can be earned. Cardholders also receive a 5 percent Cashback bonus on certain types of purchases each year, with the types of purchases being eligible for the bonus Cashback changing every three months.
From April through June, home and fashion purchases are eligible for the 5 percent Cashback bonus. From July through September, the extra bonus is applied toward gas, movies, hotels and theme parks, while restaurant and fashion purchases receive the bonus from October through December. While there is a cap on how much can be earned through the special 5 percent Cashback bonus, those purchases will still continue to earn a 1 percent Cashback bonus even after the cap has been reached.
In addition to earning Cashback from regular purchases made each day, Discover Mix Tape Student Card cardholders can also receive 5 to 20 percent Cashback when they make online purchases at the ShopDiscover online mall. Unlike many cash back credit cards, the points earned with the Discover Mix Tape Student Card never expire, though the account must remain open and current in order to redeem the bonuses that have been earned. Furthermore, there is never an annual fee associated with the card.
After earning bonuses with the Discover Mix Tape Student Card, cardholders can redeem the bonuses in increment as little as $20. Cardholders may choose to redeem their Cashback bonuses for cash in the form of a direct deposit or as a credit card statement. Cardholders may also choose to redeem their bonus for merchandise or they may redeem them for partner gift cards or Discover gift cards.
While the Discover Mix Tape Student Card offers a very appealing rewards program, the option to personalize the design is another attractive feature. Cardholders who are interested in taking advantage of this feature have many different designs to select from. These include pets, wildlife, sports, animals, city-scapes, abstract designs and more.
