Now that summer is upon us, so is the possibility of credit card fraud at the pumps. According to Phillips 66 representatives, there is a new credit card scheme that the company has been monitoring recently.. Phillips states that the scheme involves someone calling a Phillips 66 station and stating he or she needs to purchase phone cards over the telephone. The caller then gives full account information for an American Express card. The caller states that they regularly buy cards over the telephone and state that their son will come in to pick up the cards.
When the cashier manually enters the card number, he or she is prompted to imprint the card. The manager is usually called over and declines the customers request to complete the transaction over the phone. Phillips 66 states that some of their marketers other stores had also received similar fraudulent calls, but none had processed the manual sale.
