Editor's Review: The Sterling VIP Prepaid Visa Debit Card is a prepaid debit card that is issued by Four Oaks Bank & Trust Company. As with most prepaid credit cards, this card is meant for individuals who have difficulty getting a unsecured card because of limited credit history or because of poor credit.

When applying for the Sterling VIP Prepaid Visa Debit Card online, it is necessary to have a bank account in order to add funds to the card. The money placed on the card is then used offset the cost of purchases that will be made with the card. When compared to unsecured credit cards, there are fewer restrictions and qualifications for receiving this prepaid debit card. For example, there is no credit check policy and cardholders are not required to have a bank account. In fact, the only requirement is for the applicant to have a United States address that can be verified.

Prepaid cards such as the Sterling VIP Prepaid Visa Debit Card allow cardholders to add funds to the account in a variety of ways. In addition to using the bank account to transfer money to the card, cardholders can also add funds to the card by having it directly deposited from their paychecks every pay period. They can also send a postal money order through the mail or make a cash deposit through an approved bank. There is a $1 fee associated with loading funds to the card. There is an additional $5 handling fee deducted when the cash is deposited through a mail-in procedure.

There is no annual fee with the Sterling VIP Prepaid Visa Debit Card, which is unusual for prepaid credit cards. There is, however, a $59.95 application fee. There is also a processing fee of $90 and a minimum initial deposit of $10 is required. Cardholders are also assessed a $3.95 participation fee, which comes to a total of $47.40 for the year. In all, cardholders should expect to pay $197.35 for the first year.

While there is no annual fee associated with the Sterling VIP Prepaid Visa Debit Card, no additional cardholders can be added to the account of this prepaid card. The transactions of this card are not reported to credit agencies. Therefore, it will not help the cardholder build credit or repair a bad credit history.
