Editor's Review:
The Discover Open Road Card is a reward credit card that is perfect for individuals with very good credit. With this card, cardholders can participate in one of the best gas rebate reward programs available.
The Discover Open Road Card is one of the best reward credit cards because of its unique qualities and flexibility. The card provides cardholders with a 2% cash rebate on all gas and restaurant purchases on the first $250 in purchases in each billing period. Unlike many reward credit cards, it does not matter where the gas is purchased in order to qualify for rewards. In addition, general purchases earn the cardholder a 1% cash rebate. Certain discount stores and warehouse club purchases also earn .25% back for the cardholder.
The cash back rebates earned with the card on general purchases vary according to how much the cardholder has spent with the card. The first $1,500 spent on this unique reward credit card earns the cardholder a .25% rebate. When the cardholder spends between $1,500 and $3,000, he or she earns back a .5% rebate. All money the cardholder spends beyond $3,000 earns a full 1% rebate. In addition, cardholders earn a double Cashback Bonus by redeeming their points for gifts certificates with certain Discover Card Partners.
The cash back rebates the cardholder earns with the Discover Open Road Card never expire, so long as the card is used at least one time during a three-year period. There is also no limit on how many rebates a cardholder can earn each year.
The cash back rewards program isn't all the Discover Open Road Card provides to its cardholder. In addition to being a great reward credit card, it also provides cardholders with purchase protection, protection from liability for unauthorized transactions, and fraud and security protection services. In addition, it provides flight insurance, up to $500,000 in travel accident insurance, and auto rental insurance.
The card also provides cardholders with a 0% introductory APR for the first six months of membership and the introductory APR counts toward both purchases and balance transfers.
The Discover Open Road Card has no annual fee. Cardholders can also be added to the account for no additional fee. Following the introductory period, the APR for purchases is variable and based on the Prime Rate. Finance charges for the card are determined with the "Two Cycles Average Daily Balance" method. This less common method can be more costly than the "Average Daily Balance" method if the cardholder carries balances from one billing cycle to the next.
