Editor's Review:
The Citi® Driver's Edge® Card for College Students has been designed primarily as a student credit card for cardholders who plan on buying a new or used car within the next five years. You can earn a rebate of 3% for purchases made at drugstores, gas stations and supermarkets. Any other purchases earn a 1% rebate. Rebates that go unused will expire in 5 years and the allowable rebate limit per vehicle is $5000. Cardholders can also utilize their rebates for service, repairs and maintenance on a vehicle.
Additional services and benefits include card security features, buyer's protection coverage and automobile rental insurance. Student discounts are also available for cardholders at participating retailers. (Be sure to see the card application for details on discounts offered by participating merchants.)
Primary benefits for this student credit card include a pretty reasonable interest rate (compared to other student credit cards), and a very generous 6 months 0% APR applicable on all card purchases. Be aware of the cash advance "floor" of 19.99% on this card. No matter what happens to the prime rate, the cash advance APR will always maintain a "floor" of 19.99%.
This card is perfect for those students who plan on incurring a fair amount of monthly charges on their card BUT can also afford to pay off the monthly balance each month, especially after the 0% intro rate expires to avoid those potentially nasty finance charges.
