Editor's Review: This card is one of Citibank's stronger student credit cards overall. Because of its platinum status, the Citi® Platinum Select® Card for College Students is a student credit card that requires somewhat of an established credit history however.

The primary benefits of this card include a somewhat rare 0% introductory rate for the first 6 months that's applicable toward all purchases. The card requires no annual fee and also offers special student discounts at select retailers. (Please see the card application for details on participating merchants.)

Cardholders can take advantage of the various benefits that are included with many of the Citibank platinum credit card offers, including fraud protection, travel and emergency assistance services, auto rental insurance protection and travel accident insurance up to $1,000,000 (which is probably more than enough for most students.)

Be aware that the interest rate with this card for purchases and balance transfers is slightly above average compared to other student credit cards. While the slightly higher interest rate is somewhat offset by the 0% introductory rate offer and the student-related discounts that are offered, be mindful of the added expense that you might incur if you're planning to carry an occasional monthly balance.

This student credit card is most suitable for cardholders who plan on paying off their card balances every month after the introductory rate expires (in order to avoid the added expense of finance charges) and who also plan on utilizing the student-related discounts also available with the offer.
