Three men from the Seattle area were recently brought up on federal charges related to skimming devices they placed on ATMs within a six state area. Two of the men have already been in U.S. District Court in Seattle once with more hearings scheduled while a third man is being held on other state charges and will appear in state court soon.
Skimmers, some of which can be very small, can be placed inside an ATM along with a pinhole camera to capture both the card information along with a customers PIN. That allows skimmer suspects like these to empty the cash from the account quickly.
One of the suspects is suspected of having obtained information about 1,900 bank accounts, stealing just under four hundred thousand dollars in the process. The other two are suspected in stealing up to $160,000 and they face conspiracy charges as well.
