Barclay’s to Replace Loyalty Program with Two New Programs by Year End

It looks as if the Barclaycard just didn’t have as much support as first thought. Barclay just announced it will axe its Freedom loyalty program, although points can still be accumulated until June 21. Points also must be spent before July 26, although if you don’t redeem your points, the money will be credited to your account. At the time of its launch in March 2010, it was touted as a simple card that had reasonable rates with points that were easy to redeem. The Freedom card was a cash back rewards card which allowed you to earn 1% cash back at participating shops and then you could spend the points wherever you want.

Many experts believe the problem with the card was its inability to draw a major list of retailers. The absence of any major supermarkets also hurt the card. Barclay’s states that it will launch two new rewards programs by the end of the year.
