A former employee of the Lexington Inn in Stillwater, MN, used guest credit card numbers she recorded during the reservations process to pay her cable bill and buy Jimmie Johns pizza for a crowd during the months of July and August.
Danese Nicole Grant was charged with felony identity theft and felony financial transaction fraud after she stole the credit card numbers of three different guests, then made phone purchases with each of the three cards. Total costs were around five hundred dollars.
Stillwater Police initially got a call from a New York man who said hed only used his card at the Lexington Inn in Stillwater. Just a few weeks later, they received calls from a Colorado woman and an additional hotel guest. With a bit of investigation, they learned that all of the hotel clerks had access to the credit card numbers, and Grant became the suspect. A pizza delivery driver identified Grant as taking delivery, and investigators began to question her in the case.
Grant maintains her innocence in the case. If she is convicted, she could be facing five years in prison as well as fines in excess of $10,000.
