In a press release from mobile payments company Square, the company announced that its credit card reader would be available for sale at thousands of more stores. The reader is already available for purchase at Apple, Wal-Mart, Office Max, Best Buy, Target, and Radio Shack. Now the reader will be available at 7,000 Walgreens, 1,500 Fed Ex stores, and 1,500 Staples locations. The device currently sells for $9.95, but the company gives a $10 credit to all new users, which covers the initial cost.
The Square card reader allows anyone to accept a credit card payment. The reader connects to a mobile device such as an iPhone, iPad, or Android phone. This recent push by Square gives more consumers access to their device and an edge over their competition.
Numerous other companies are also selling credit card readers. One of the main competitors will soon be PayPal, who plans on launching their own credit card reader soon. PayPal just completed beta testing in the US, Japan, and Europe.
