WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – A West Hollywood City Councilman is creating a legal defense fund in case charges are filed against him by the Los Angeles County district attorney. John Duran is creating the fund because of possible charges against him for improper use of a city issued credit card. The charges in question amount to $7,000, or 128 meals and cover a three-year period. Duran states that he was discussing city business on each of those meals.
These possible charges come from a previous inquiry, which began in March 2011, into alleged misuse of the city credit cards by employees. According to the Los Angeles Times, one credit card used by numerous employees, charged $121,000 over a three-year period.
In response to these inquiries, the city of West Hollywood has released two statements. The first states that the inquiry is complete and that no further action will be taken. The second statement explains that all expenditures by the employees must first be approved and are only for business related activities.
