Visa®: At A Glance
With over 1 billion cardholders in more than 150 countries and more than $4 trillion in yearly transaction volume, the Visa credit card brand is undoubtedly one of the worlds most widely recognized and utilized payment brands on the planet.
The Visa name was actually conceived by company founder, Dee Hock, who believed the word would be easily recognizable in many languages and countries and would denote the feeling of universal acceptance that Hock was looking to create for the Visa brand.
With an initial mailing of 60,000 unsolicited credit cards, Bank of America launched their BankAmericard program in Fresno, California in 1958, marking the birth of the credit card industry, soon to become known as Visa International. From that early beginning back in California, Visa International soon emerged as one of the largest financial concerns on the planet comprised of more than 13,000 member financial institutions issuing Visa credit cards and debit cards worldwide.
Visa doesn’t actually issue credit cards or extend credit to consumers themselves. Instead, Visa provides banks and financial institutions with Visa-branded payment products. Along with their technology and payments infrastructure, Visa allows members to extend its own Visa debit, credit and prepaid card products directly to their own customers.
As one of the world’s leading payment brands, Visa branded
credit cards offer some of the most compelling card features in the marketplace for
balance transfer credit cards,
cash back rewards, extended
low interest and 0% APR,
airline miles credit cards as well as some of the very
best business credit cards for small business owners.
